Dr. Ryan Barnes to KUMC
Dr. Ryan Barnes will be moving to Kansas City at the end of this month to start his own lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center. As a fixture of the Opresko lab and the Hillman Cancer Center for the past six years, Ryan will be missed by many here in Pittsburgh.
Ryan joined the Opresko lab in 2017, after finishing his PhD work in Kristin Eckert’s lab at the Penn State University College of Medicine. Ryan has had a very lucrative career while here at Pitt. He published a first author paper in NSMB, was awarded the Hillman Postdoctoral Fellowship for Innovative Cancer Research and the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Individual Postdoctoral F32 Fellowship, as well as secured an NIH Pathway to Independence K99 Award. He has shown great leadership skills during his tenure, mentoring many new and rotating lab members, as well as being selected for discussion leader and co-chair positions at the GRC and a session co-chair position for EMGS.
As well as being a supportive colleague, Ryan has been a great friend to many in the GSP, bringing a lot of laughter to the halls of the Hillman. He will be missed by many here. We are all excited to see what awesome science comes from his new lab, and we hope only the best for him in the future!
